Joaquin Mariel
As a Co-Director of Ecology Action of Texas for the last 5 years, Joaquin has overseen a number of changes and updates to the organization’s recycling processing center. These changes have resulted in increased access to landfill diversion opportunities for Austin citizens and small businesses as well as improved sourcing of recycled material. Joaquin has made it his priority to collaborate with all potential stakeholders including citizens, the business community, City staff, recycling industry leaders, and environmental activists to identify highest and best use of waste materials, including hard-to-recycle items to help Austin achieve its Zero Waste goals. Joaquin is also a member of the Earth Share of Texas governing board where he works as the Access Committee (Business Development) Co-Chair, networking with regional and national corporations to connect their employees to environmental causes that they care about.
